The explanation of topic:
The convergence of radio and optical access networks on a physical layer is leading to a brand new technological field called micro-wave photonics. It will bring new functionalities into asses networks that will enable higher bandwidths and lower latencies. Using integrated micro-wave photonics in optically supported wireless networks can provide solutions that are especially suitable for a high-capacity radio system based on micro-wave and millimeter-wave frequency bands. Current micro-wave photonics communication systems are based on optical fiber and discrete components, which limits high-volume applications. By incorporating these discrete sub-systems into photonic integrated circuits, the integrated micro-wave photonics technology is offering cost and energy efficiency based on a decrease in the size and complexity of the base-stations’ front-end. Besides increasing the capacity integrated micro-wave photonics will enable the flexibility and scalability of 5G mobile and wireless communication networks as well as introducing low latency.
Papers presented on this special session will be published in FOAN2019 proceeding and be consider to publish in the journal Fiber and Integrated Optics.
